I am EXTREAMLY interested in moving to Oregon with in the next year. I am a single mom of a 5 year old - looking to start over in a very "green" state - currently in NJ. Looking for advise, love the Hawthorne area (se Portland), need a cheap apartment and a good job. Also how hard would it be to make friends I am 26 and very outgoing! Any help!

I would move out there tomorrow if I could. I feel like I belong in Oregon - NJ has too much smog, nasty people etc...... PLEASE help

  1. I am from Eugene and Oregon is a wonderful place to live.  I love Bend/Redmond and they are very up and coming with regard to services available in larger cities like LA etc.  My father has told me that Oregon is doing ok with regards to housing as many areas had restrictions on how much and where they could build so that has kept the housing crisis at bay for all intents and purposes so far.  He did tell me that they did overbuild in Bend/Redmond and so now might be the time to find houses that are cheaper in that area.

Unfortunately I do not know much about apartments in Oregon, but they are generally cheaper than in large cities.

Oregon has different types of weather and based on what you like, you can choose what you want.

The coastal areas are temperate with quite a bit of rain.  I used to live in Gold Beach, Oregon as well and it is a wonderful small town at the mouth of the Rogue River.  If you like to fish, this is the place.

The Willamette Valley gets quite a bit of rain as well but is a very beautiful and green place because of this.  You will sometimes get snow in the winter but on the Valley floor this is rare....it mostly rains.

Anything over the Cascade Range is a high desert (Bend/Redmond).  You have less rain, but more temperature fluctuations.  However you are closer to the wonderful snow resorts like Willamette Pass and Mt. Bachelor.

Just remember nasty people are everywhere and each location comes with good things and bad.  It all depends on what you are looking for.  Cost of living may be lower but that might also correspond to your salary.  I have much more information about other locations in Oregon so feel free to email me if you would like info on other cities etc.

    Cheers!

  2. good luck

  3. Oregon is a very beautiful place to live. It's very cheap there also especially with no taxes. My family all lives in between the Eugene and Roseburg area. There are alot of inexpensive houses. Do you know anybody ther already? If so have them send you some classified ads or if not get the number to the Oregonian News paper and have them send you a copy. There is a place called the Higher Callings it's a temp service where my sister works and they will find you a good job. And the people all are very nice! Good luck with your move. I hope to move there myself one day but for right now I'll stay in Hawaii.

  4. Good Luck moving to Oregon. Live in Bend, Oregon. the cleanest city I think in Oregon is Portland. Happy early Valentine's day to you.
