Question:

Single needle knitting?

What is it called to knit with only one needle?

I have seen this in movies and on commercials, where people are knitting but only using one knitting needle but I can not find a how to anywhere.

I thought it might be easier to find an on line tutorial if I knew what the actual technique was called.

If anyone knows what this is called, or has a link to an on line tutorial I would appreciate it.

What I am looking for is not crochet, they are not using a crochet hook to do this. Only a single knitting needle.

Thanks for your help.

  1. I think this is called a Tunisian knitting needle? You make stitches on a needle then thread the yarn back through, it's a little like the effect of crocheting.

Look up a tunisian knitting/crocheting link on the net ?

  2. I knit, and I know on TV and movies they AREN'T knitting. So this one needle thing could be fake.

They could just be using one needle when they are first starting their project.

  3. I think you may have seen someone crocheting.  It is easy to learn and very relaxing.

There are videos on the net to learn how to crochet and how to knit.  I tried to post the links but Yahoo wouldn't allow it.

  4. its called crochet, you use a needle with a hooked end.
