I am looking for a N/S traveling companion or suggestions on how to see the world on the cheap. Love people and the outdoors. I speak Spanish, some French and some Italian. Don't mind roughing it a bit or working my way some. Have great health, no responsibilities and the time to do it now....carpe diem! I could use information on the logistics.

I have $9999 more or less for budget and can stay gone for an unlimited period as long as it's fun.

Does anyone have a sailboat that needs an inexperienced but capable, pleasant, quick learner to stand watch, cook and do whatever?

  1. Companies like Airtreks.com, Air Brokers, and STA Travel sell "round the world tickets" that let you combine several one-way airline tickets to go all the way around the world without backtracking.  They start at about $2000 for a strictly northern hemisphere trip with 6-8 stops.  Including South America, Africa, or Australia/New Zealand/South Pacific on your ticket will add another few hundred each.

The key to long-term travel is that some parts of the world are much cheaper than others.  Asia in particular has many destinations that are both very inexpensive - you can spend as little as $500 per month - and have lots of places of interest - India, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines.  There are also many inexpensive options in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa, and most parts of those regions can be traveled for $1000 per month and less in some places.

  2. You are so lucky!!   That's exactly the situation I dream of being in myself.   Congratulations and good luck!
