Question:

Single working mothers, how do you do it?

My cousin is going out of town and I agreed to take care of his 3 year old daughter. I am financially stable to take care of her and anything she needs, and I love her very much.

The problem is that I go back to work in 2 weeks (I'm a teacher) and I take classes at the University. I know the University has a child development center but I'm not sure how to make this situation work.

Mothers, please give me any advice you can.

Thank you!

  1. the legal guardian needs to do the enrolling of the day care.

you can get a notarized letter stating that her parents are allowing you to make emotional and health decisions for a specific period of time.

my advice to you is have fun.  you will grow very attached to that little girl.  i grew attached with my nephew. i keep him every other weekend.

  2. Not trying to be rude but did you think of any of this before you said yes??

Not sure why the thumbs down when it’s a logical question. I know how long it takes to find GOOD daycare. Sure, you can send her to whatever is available but usually, during the start of the school year, daycares fill up fast. They have wait lists. They require shot records for enrollment and notarized letters from the parent. And you’ll need notarized letters from the parent as well stating you’re the “parent” for the next month or whatever length of time. Most daycares I looked into for my son had a 1 month wait list.

As for your college classes, again, you’ll need someone to watch the child. Do you have family? Or someone to trust that can watch her? Does HE have family? Someone she may like to see while he’s gone?

I wish you luck. Because as a parent, rushing through stuff last minute is chaos. And daycares aren’t something you want to rush. I wish you luck!

  3. look for a daycare now.

u will need his permission(letter) to enroll her.

many daycare are full and u need to see if they are open the hours u need it.

sounds like u will need all day care for the child.

its going to be very expensive thats for sure, but start looking around and set a start date.

check their health inpections and any incident reports too.

  4. call the center and see if they have room for her, if not find a daycare.

its going to be hard, but i do it with 3 kids. how long are you going to have her?

take a look at mine and tell me what you think plz:

  5. How long is he out of town? You aren't going to find a day care that will agree to take her for 2 weeks or something.....Didn't you think about your work/school schedule before you agreed to provide care for a child?

  6. you have 2 weeks, start making calls now! If you can't get her into the daycare at the school then look for a local daycare center or a home based daycare. There are a lot of options, especally to someone who has the money, which not all single moms do.
