Singles shuttlers Arundhati, Pawar determined to soar high in Finnish Open
The singles experts of India Arundhati Pantawane and Anand Pawar are determined to swing their arms and soar high in the Finnish Open set to be staged at Vantaa from March 29, 2012.
Both shuttlers have seen a downfall in their rankings and now they are looking to get back their previous positions in the world rankings by living up to their billings in this event.
The Women’s singles shuttler Arundhati, currently ranked 68 after falling from 61 in the world rankings, will start her marathon against relatively low ranked contestant Akvile Stapusaityte. If she overwhelms the World Number 90 shuttler she will lock horns
with the Swiss lady Jeanine Cicognini to elevate her chances for semi-finals.
The Nagpur girl, playing her second international event after an eye ailment, is hoping to register her presence in the arena by fetching the best out of this opportunity.
Arundhati said, "The draw is favourable to me. Now it is up to me to make the most of it. I am on way to regaining full fitness and hopefully should do well this time."
The National Games gold medallist Arundhati missed a series of prestigious events due to her injury and made a comeback in Polish Open last week but she failed to revive her old rhythm and went down against the Japanese shuttler Ai Goto in the second round.
Now she believes she can hope for the best as she has seen the worst in recent past.
Meanwhile, the Male singles player Anand Pawar is also set to turn the bitter past into a better future as he looks in high spirits after the announcement of draws.
The World Number 81 Anand Pawar lost his 40th spot in the world rankings due to his below par performances in the past but now he is determined to start his race to past glory by rising against the Sri Lankan shuttler Karunaratne in the opening
match.
Pawar said, "I think the first round is tricky against the Sri Lankan guy. Then hopefully, I can make it forward from there. He (Karunaratne) is quite good."
The Indian has overwhelmed his opponent twice in the past but this time it is certainly going to be tough case as the Sri Lankan looks in good touch after performing well in Swedish Open.
The young K. Nandagopal is the other Indian male shuttler in the event but he will have to go through the qualifiers to earn a spot in the main round.
