Sinhalese Sports Club v Lankan Cricket Club – Premier Limited Over Tournament (Group B) – Match Update – Sinhalese SC win by 9 wickets
An unbeaten half-century from Kaushal Silva took the Sinhalese Sports Club to a comfortable 9-wicket win over the Lankan Cricket Club, in their Group B match during the Premier Limited Over Tournament, played today on December 11 at the Sinhalese Sports
Club Ground in Colombo.
The match commenced with the Sinhalese SC winning the toss and deciding to field first. The team then proceeded to launch an incisive bowling attack, which ensured effective run restriction, and kept the wickets coming. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sachithra-Madushanka-Senanayake-c87813 (8-3-20-3) and
Kasun Madushanka (6-1-15-3) led the charge, while Amil Prasad (5.3-0-22-2) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wijesinghe-Mudiyanselage-Charith-Jayampathi-c96551 (7-1-22-1) both featured as supporting acts. Combined, they managed to limit the Lankan CC to an exceptionally low total, allowing just three batsmen to register
double-digit scores.
The Sinhalese SC got their first breakthrough in the first over, with opening batsman Taraka Waduge’s dismissal on duck, off Jayampathi. His fellow opener, wicketkeeper batsman Deshan Dias, top-scored for the team with a mediocre 21, and was joined by Dasun
Ariyasinghe (12) for the highest partnership on their side – a 22-run stand for the second wicket.
The 8th over saw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Don-Shameera-Dane-Weerasinghe-c54346
(3) off the pitch. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Don-Rajeeva-Frank-Weerasinghe-c54340 (6) were similarly disappointing, and dismissed swiftly after registering below-par scores.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ranasinghe-Arachchige-Charith-Gayan-Jayaweera-c83926 (8) continued the disappointing trend
and gave their wickets away cheaply. By the 33rd over, with Amila Aponso (5*) the lone batsman left at the crease, the Lankan CC finished all out at a meagre final total of 100.
Predictably, the chase did not take the Sinhalese SC long to complete. The dismissal of opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jayan-Kaushal-Silva-c66641 (66*), was the only casualty the team
suffered. Silva then teamed up with Bhanuka Rajapaksa (13*), and the two dug their heels in for an unbeaten 25-run partnership which saw the Sinhalese SC home safe, with 9 wickets and 213 balls remaining.
