How often should you replace your sink garbage disposal? I've had mine for 10 months since I moved to a new home but it's starting to stink.

  1. First time for everything,  you replace it when it breaks down and not repairable.   When using it, make sure you run cold water while operating.  This is flushes the waste down and also cools the motor.  Continue running the water for a short time after turning it off.  I also like to put ice and mine to help clean it.  Not only does it get rid of old ice in the icemaker it helps keep the disposer clean.

  2. You are not running the water long enough after using. Try running some lemon peels through it.

  3. Pour a little baking soda in it, then pour vinegar in .  Let set 5 or 10 min. & flush with water, good as new.

  4. It should not need to be replaced unless it breaks down.  Are you using plenty of water to flush it out each and every time you use it?  This is the number one problem we find with garbage disposal units - people do not run enough water while using it, or they try to put too much in at one time.
