Siobhan Haughey seizes Girls 400m IM gold: Day five – Australian Age Championships
Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong seized gold medal of the Girls 400m Individual Medley (IM) in the age group of 14 Year Olds on fifth day of the 2012 Australian Age Championships at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Brisbane on Friday, April 13.
Haughey stayed comfortably ahead of her competitors in the distant IM discipline. With her impeccable swim, she faced no trouble in earning gold medal of the discipline as she tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 55.49 seconds.
Her alluring effort was followed by Alanna Bowles of Rocky City, who occupied second position of the discipline by hitting the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 56.25 seconds.
Bowles was followed by Karlene Pircher of Melbourne Vicentre, who earned bronze medal of the event by ending her swim with the timing of 4 minutes and 58.08 seconds.
Pircher was chased by Alexandra Good of Surrey Park, who seized fourth position of the discipline by hitting the wall with the timing of 5 minutes and 01.27 seconds.
The fifth spot of the race was secured by Taylor Green of East Brisbane, who stayed 1.11 seconds behind and completed her race with the timing of 5 minutes and 02.38 seconds.
After that, Nunawading’s Nic Groenewald occupied the title of similar event in Boys corner. The 14-year-old Groenewald remained considerable faster from his following swimmers and concluded his race with the timing of 4 minutes and 35.43 seconds for gold
medal.
He was followed by Davenport-Wright, who snared silver medal of the discipline by hitting the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 38.56 seconds.
The second best finisher was trailed by Cal Sherington of Carlile, who posted a time of 4 minutes and 40.41 seconds for third position of the event.
The fourth position of the discipline was secured by Joel Pearson of Playford Aquatic, who touched the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 42.00 seconds.
Furthermore, the spectators admired scintillating efforts of all age group competitors in their respective discipline while the session concluded after the completion of all planned events.
