Sir Alan Isaac - the new nominee for ICC's vice Presidential slot
Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has finally accepted defeat by accepting Sir Alan Isaac as the new nominee for the position of the ICC’s vice President's position. After the rejection of Australian nominee John Howard, the ICC had asked CA and New Zealand Cricket Board to come up with a fresh nominee. It was largely due to the heavy resistance that Howard faced from almost all cricketing boards for his statements against the Zimbabwean government during his tenure.
Interestingly, the ICC had refused to give any reason for rejecting Howard’s nomination. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719, the ICC’s CEO had previously said that John lacked sufficient support from the directors and ICC is not bound to give any explanation for John’s rejection.
There weren't sufficient number of directors in support of the nomination," Lorgat said. "[It] did not go to a vote and the outcome was to request Cricket Australia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Cricket to reconsider their nomination and to return to the ICC by the 31st of August."
ICC vice President’s position is most sorted out since after two years, vice president is promoted as President.  ICC President Sharad Pawar was previously the vice president of ICC, but after two years, he has been promoted to the post of President and the position of vice president has become vacant.
CA said that the board reaffirms the credentials of John Howard, and CA feels that Mr. John is the ideal man for the job of ICC vice president. Cricket Australia also feels that in such conditions, it’s not possible for them to come up with a new nominee. CA chairman Jack Clarke said, “We still have been given no official reason why a strongly-credentialed candidate of Mr. Howard’s qualification’s, skill and stature was not supported,” he said.
Australian has shown its disappointment on getting their nominee rejected by ICC. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 said that they are happy to support New Zealand’s nominee Alan Isaac for the post of vice president in International Cricket Council, in order to find a way forward.
“Our Directors were today very strongly of the view that Mr Howard continues to be the best candidate CA could nominate. We are not prepared to suggest another candidate but given it is clear Mr Howard will not be supported, we clearly have to consider a new approach. Accordingly, we are pleased to support New Zealand Cricket’s suggestion that Alan Isaac be nominated for the role. Alan has a strong cricket and sporting administrative background but the relevant benefit he brings to the table is his strong record as an expert practitioner and adviser in organisational governance and his business and financial acumen."
New Zealand cricket chairman, and an eminent businessman, Alan Isaac is likely to replace the John Howard as a nominee for ICC vice president. Alan, who was furious with the ICC for refusing their joint nominee with Australia, is now all set to take up the role of ICC’s vice president. New Zealand Cricket board CEO Justin Vaughan said that after the rejection of John Horward, both boards have decided to consider a way forward out of this controversy. "The board of New Zealand Cricket is both proud to nominate its chairman for this global leadership role and confident in his ability to make a significant contribution to the sport," Vaughan said.
New Zealand was previously trying to nominate Sir http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Anderson-c67288 for the job. Sir John was former Chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Board and was seen as a respectable figure in the Australian subcontinent. New Zealand had to back track from its original nomination after Sir John refused to stand for this job. "Unfortunately Sir John advised me that he is not available to be considered as a possible nominee," Isaac said. "The NZC board respects Sir John's position and acknowledges the outstanding contribution he has made to the game of cricket. We have recommenced discussions with Cricket Australia around a proposed way forward."
The rejection of John Howard had made newspaper headlines and it looked that a deadlock may be created between Australia, New Zealand and the ICC. It was Australian’s turn to nominate a person of their choice and never before in the history of the ICC has any nomination ever been rejected by the body. Thankfully, a way forward has been created by the joint effort of the New Zealand Cricket Board and CA. Hopefully, ICC directors will welcome the nomination of Sir Alan Isaac and concentrate on issues that will improve the game in the world.
