Sir Alex Ferguson Hoping Manchester United Continue Their Good Form
Manchester United’s win over Arsenal at Old Trafford last night not only confirmed Sir Alex Ferguson’s team place at the top of the English Premier League, but also established a record. Manchester United have now gone 16 games
unbeaten in the League since the start of this season. They successfully beat the previous record, which was 15 games, set in the 1985-1986 season by Ron Atkinson’s side.
Sir Alex Ferguson was hopeful that his side could extend their record to 17 games; they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. He said, “I hope we can make it 17. That's a very important game now and we are starting
to get there in terms of our form. It's improving and, if the back four continue to play like that, it will give us a great chance.”
The United boss was proud of his side’s performance against Arsenal. He said,
"We had to play well tonight. In these major games you want to perform and we did that, especially in the first half. Arsenal came into it in the second half but they did not create many good chances. But they pegged us back a bit and the penalty miss [by
Wayne Rooney after 71 minutes] gave them impetus.”
Ferguson spoke fondly of his goal scoring striker, Park Ji-sung, who scored the only goal of the match towards the end of the first half and gave United a much needed win over the Gunners
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger also spoke out on his team’s performance and credited United’s inflexible defence. He said, “I don't think we failed to deliver. We lost a game, which can happen here. You have to give credit to Manchester
United's defensive qualities. United played a very simple game but they were very efficient at it and our passing was not sharp enough to get them out of position.”
