Sir Alex Ferguson: Owen Staying At United

Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United boss, said there was no chance of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355 leaving the club in the upcoming January transfer window. There were rumors suggesting the player could be on his way out on a loan move. He was linked with a number
of sides, his former club http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 being one of them. However, the Manchester United boss ruled out the possibility of the hit-man leaving Old Trafford any time soon.
Michael Owen has recently returned to fitness after being out for the better part of the season with a hamstring injury. With his current contract coming close to an end, there has been speculation that the 31-year-old Englishman may very well be on his
way out from Manchester United.
It has been suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson would be better off in unloading the player this January instead of waiting until the summer when the player will leave for free. Ferguson has denied all such rumors, saying that he felt Owen still had a lot to
give, even with his countless injury problems.
Ferguson said, “He is looking really good. He has trained really well this week. People may have forgotten just what a good player Michael is. He’s had a nightmare time with a bad hamstring injury but now he deserves a change of luck. If he can stay fit,
I believe he has an important part to play for the club between now and the end of the season; there's no doubt about that. He still has a great engine.”
Michael Owen’s career, after his spell at Liverpool, has been plagued with injuries. The player is known to trip on his own foot and injure himself, something which makes him a liability for his club. Over half of the season he spends on the sidelines, the
other half is spent on the bench, waiting for the right time to make a comeback, only to be injured again for a few months.
Ferguson still maintained faith in the player though, he added, “There has never been a problem with him since he came to United. I know a few clubs have been thinking about him for a possible loan arrangement but it will not happen. He is definitely not
going anywhere.”
