Sir Alex Ferguson: Seattle Sounders had several chances against Manchester United - MLS News
It would be an overstatement to say that Manchester United rallied over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Seattle-Sounders-FC-c40474, the Major League Soccer franchise that hosted the international friendly at CenturyLink Park in Emerald City on Wednesday, July 20.
The battle was an equal affair in terms of shots, attempts on goal and saves. The Sounders FC notched 49 percent of the ball possession against one of the best clubs in the world. However, United created all the difference on the score board with their clinical
finishing.
“When you look at it, they had very few wasted chances,” Rave Green manager Sigi Schmid said. “Every time they had a clean look on goal, it was in the back of the net. That’s the difference in quality between here and overseas.”
Worse still, the team allowed too much space to Manchester United to churn out six goals in the second half.
Schmid’s counterpart, legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, shared his thoughts after the match.
“I don’t think the scoreline reflected the chances Seattle managed, because in the first half the Sounders had two or three good chances,” Ferguson said. “Anders Lindegaard, our goalkeeper, made two great saves.”
Though a win for Manchester United was always expected, lack of finishing ability meant that the Sounders made the task even easier for Ferguson and his men. The Rave Green squandered a number of chances in the game.
The two sides had different approaches to the game. Sir Alex played his reserves in the first half and kept the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 for the next 45 minutes. The decision paid dividends and the United scored six goals in the second
period with Rooney scoring an emphatic hat-trick.
Ashley Young played 64 minutes for United and created several chances from the left flank, notching the assist on the first goal that was scored by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355.
