Sir Alex Ferguson after Sunderland's Jordan Henderson
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has revealed that Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to sign central midfield player Jordan Henderson.
The 20-year-old has had a brilliant last year with the club. He is now a first team regular at Sunderland and is looking forward to his first international game for England against France this week.
"Only once has Fergie talked about one of my players, and that was [Antonio] Valencia
and bugger me, he bought him! He had spoken to me about him. 'Keep me informed' were his words, then he signed him.
He has said the same about Jordan," Bruce told national newspaper the
News of the World.
Henderson seems to have impressed with his physical fitness more than anything else. This could be just what Ferguson is looking for now that Owen Hargreaves is set for
another spell out of the game with a hamstring injury.
"What has caught most of their eyes is his ability to get up and down the
pitch...Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole and Cesc Fabregas, they are all great players, but they can get up and down the pitch to get the mileage, and you need that," added
Bruce.
Bruce insists that he will do the very best to keep the player at the club. However, he admits it will be difficult because the top sides with all the money don't often
have a young player, with a long career ahead of him, to target.
"If you are Chelsea, Manchester United, or Liverpool, there is a 20-year-old
who is playing in the Premier League week in, week out. There are not many you can look at.
He is a Sunderland player, and a Sunderland lad, and we will do our utmost to keep him.
Betting advice
Henderson is enjoying the time of his life at the moment and played a crucial role in Sunderland's 3-0 away win against Chelsea. Back him to do very well for his club and
it's worth placing a small bet on him scoring for England this week against the French.
