Sir Alex Ferguson backs misfiring Wayne Rooney
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson claims that he is not concerned by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736’s goal drought, saying that it won’t be long before the out-of-sorts striker returns to his deadly best.
Rooney is enduring a terrible season so far, having scored just three goals since the start of the campaign. The England international has been a shadow of his former self since returning from an ankle injury. However, much of the dip in form can also be
attributed to Rooney’s problems off the pitch.
The striker’s future at Old Trafford came under question a few months ago after it was revealed that he wanted to leave the Red Devils. The transfer saga came to an end after the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international was convinced to stay, but the incident damaged his standing
amongst the United supporters.
Rooney then found himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons after he was accused of adultery. The 25-year-old’s personal problems left him short on confidence, and he has since struggled to find the back of the net.
However, Rooney has at least one supporter in the form of his manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. The United boss said, “Some of our critics are making a meal out of the fact that Wayne Rooney is lagging behind in the goal stakes. He is, compared with the bucket
load he scored last year, but I am not worried.”
Ferguson said that the strike partnership of Rooney and Berbatov is producing goals, and he believes that is the important thing.
The Red Devils manager said, “It is the scoring partnership that matters and the combination between our two front men has improved beyond all recognition. Last year, Wayne benefited from Dimitar's work but this year it is Berbatov enjoying the last touch.
He added, "If we finish the season with Berbatov scoring 30 and Wayne on 10 - and those are the targets I have in mind - I will be more than happy.”
Let’s see whether Wayne Rooney can justify the manager’s faith in him when Manchester United go up against Aston Villa on 1st February.
