Sir Alex Ferguson blames agents for unrest
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has blamed agents for the unrest between players and their club. After a weeklong saga between Manchester United and English international Wayne Rooney, the striker finally put pen to paper and signed a long term
contract with the Manchester based club.
The entire football world shook when Wayne Rooney expressed his desire to leave the club he has served for 6 years. The reason the 25 year old gave was the inability of the club to compete in major competitions owing to lack of quality signings following
the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez. The player gave his all last season when he scored 34 times in 44 appearances, but could only guide United to the league cup. United lost the premier league with just one point between them and champions
Chelsea. They also crashed out of the UEFA Champions league in the quarter final at the hands of eventual finalists Bayern Munich.
Despite this, United signed three rather younger players this season and the striker was disappointed by the lack of quality in the squad. He was unsure of the direction the club was heading into. The player claimed that he came to United only to win trophies
but was unsure whether the side would be able to get more silverware with the current depth in the outfit. However, the English star’s confusions and insecurities were put to rest when he had meeting with the management and the owners and signed a contract
with a wage in between the region of 150,000 – 190,000 pounds a week.
Ferguson however refuses to blame the player for this saga and hinted towards the player’s agent for the unrest. Rooney has been ruled out for 3 weeks on the sidelines owing to ankle concern, but United did fairly well without him when they managed their
first away league win of the season against Stoke yesterday. New signing Javier Hernandez scored his first ever brace for the club and the manager was delighted for the youngster.
"It is always tough at United. There are always issues to deal with. When your top players come towards the end of their contracts you have to do something to get them a new one. They are all the same. You have to deal with agents of this world today, which
is difficult. The players are no problem. There is no problem with players. Some agents are difficult," claimed the United manager.
Despite all the unrest caused by the player, who questioned the quality of the current squad, it seems the English star would fit right in with his team-mates and regain his form when he returns from the ankle concern. United veteran right back Gary Neville
explained the situation of the 25 year old, stating that whenever top quality players like Rooney sign a long term contract, it is a boost for the entire club. Neville added that now that Rooney is staying, the entire outfit was looking forward to having him
back and use his ability to win more trophies at the club.
Neville claimed that despite having a difficult week, everything worked out in the end. Rooney signed a new contract and United won their first away league fixture, so it was win-win for the club in the end.
In his column, Neville stated that it would only be a matter of time when the fans forgive Rooney, as the player has already apologised for his action.
"While there will always be fallout from an incident like this, as soon as we get back to playing football and Wayne gets back on the pitch it will all be forgotten about”, stated the former United skipper.
