Sir Alex Ferguson blasts Manchester United’s stars after their shock draw with F.C Basel – UEFA Champions League
After taking a two goal lead against F.C Basel in the first half of their group stage encounter against the Swiss minnows, Manchester United blew their chances of gaining a win at Old Trafford in the second half as they conceded
three goals in quick succession to gift F.C Basel the lead. Ashley Young’s heroics in the end were required to rescue a point as well as some pride for Manchester United as they had to settle for a 3-3 draw in the end.
It was a particularly careless display in the second half which made it difficult for Manchester United to build on their lead from the first half. Sir Alex Ferguson was ruthless in his post-match comments about Manchester United’s
performance on the night which saw them play wonderfully in the first half but disastrously in the second half. The draw against F.C Basel has left Manchester United in deep troubled waters as they will need to win their remaining ties to gain a top of the
group position come the end of the UEFA Champions’ League group stages.
Such a task won’t be an easy one but Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are more than capable of going on a run of wins in the competition if they play to the best of their abilities. United were without the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736, Nemanja
Vidic, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Smalling and Javier Hernandez along with Thomas Cleverley in their draw against F.C Basel which had a negative impact on their first team line up as Sir Alex had to eventually play Park Ji Sung in the midfield area.
Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson spoke to the media after the match as he said, "I think we were careless, they made two or three openings in the first half and a lack of concentration kills us, we threw the game away really and after that really
good performance in the first-half we were left grappling at the end of the game to get a result because the opportunities they created in the first-half that was frustrating."
He added, "[It's] positive it’s happening at this point in the comp and not later on: I think it’s a wake-up call, losing three goals at home you have to be better than that in terms of concentration, if you're lax in quality the
quality the Champions League is, it can make you suffer.” Manchester United now play against Norwich City on the weekend before the international break kicks in. Sir Alex will be hoping that most of his injured stars are back in action after the international
break as it will surely give Manchester United a well needed boost heading into the final few games of the UEFA Champions’ League group stage.
