Sir Alex Ferguson has come out and criticized the TV deals that have made it harder for clubs in Europe to rest some of their players due to the rigorous schedules that they are presented with at the start of the season. The veteran
manager also made a claim that clubs do not get the best out of these TV deals insisting that a lot more revenue can be made in such matters.
Manchester United who earn a large part of their profit from such deals gathered in around about 60 million pounds last year in television rights from the English Premier League. The Red Devils who won the Premier League also made
it to the UEFA Champions League final, something that helped them recoup 46 million pounds in television revenue from the UEFA Champions League. Sir Alex hinted that clubs had lost control of their own destiny in football due to the amount of money involved
and the capital at stake invested by broadcasting organizations.
The Scotsman spoke to the media in his recent press conference and said, "When you shake hands with the devil you have to pay the price. Television is God at the moment. It shows itself quite clearly because when you see the fixture
lists come out now, they can pick and choose whenever they want the top teams on television. You get some ridiculous situations when you're playing on Wednesday night in Europe and then at lunchtime the following Saturday.”
He added, "You ask any manager if they would pick that themselves and there would be no chance. When you think of that I don't think we get enough money." Sir Alex Ferguson’s men drew their last league fixture against Stoke City
at the Britannia stadium but now they have to face off against F.C Basel at Old Trafford on Tuesday night in the UEFA Champions’ League group stages.
