Sir Alex Ferguson completes 24 years at Manchester United – Part 1

Saturday was a very special day for Manchester Uniter boss Sir Alex Ferguson, not because they closed the gap with league leaders Chelsea but because today he completed his 24th year incharge at Old Trafford.
He was appointed on the 6th of November, 1986 and since then has made himself part of this club. He has not only become the best ever manager for United but the best ever manager in the history of British football. After leading the Red Devils
to numerous titles and awards and managing this club in thousands of games, Ferguson shed some light on the most memorable game of his illustrious 24 years in charge at Old Trafford. That game is none of the memorable European Cup victories but a premiership
encounter with Tottenham Hotspur in 2001.
It was one of the all time greatest comeback triumphs in the history of English football, after going down 3-0 in the 1st half United gave an unforgettable performance, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Juan Sebastián Verón, Andy Cole, Laurent Blanc and David Beckham
scored five goals in the second half, thus winning the game 5-3 at White Hart Lane. This win is considered to the hallmark of United and provided a stage for more incredible victories.
When talking about this memorable victory Fergie said, “The one that sticks in my mind was when we were at Tottenham in September 2001 and were 3-0 down at half-time but then we went on to beat them 5-3. It was such an amazing turnaround, and the fans played
their part too. It was a great game.”
Ferguson started his journey at Oxford where he took charge of United for the very first time. Football was different then and was not as glamouros during Scott’s first game incharge, which was after he replaced Ron Atkinson at Old Trafford. United lost
this game 2-0 against Oxford United. 13,545 people gathered at old Manor Ground to watch the match.
Ferguson was shocked to see the poor fitness levels of the United players. A winning culture was nowhere to be seen at the club back then and players were more into drinking. There was a lot of work needed to bring a positive change at that time and to see
how the Scott has turned around the fortunes of the club, is just amazing.
Today as he completes his 24th year in the hot seat of Old Trafford. Ferguson creates yet another record in an already extraordinary career after his team defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at home. With this win United manager has recorded
his longest ever undefeated start of the season since taking over from Atkinson.
United’s run of 16 games unbeaten since the start of the season has made them the only side in the Premier League yet to lose a game even though they are still behind Chelsea.
The Scott is not the one to look for such stats as his career is already full of more prestigious records that one can imagine to have in their wildest dreams, but he would gladly trade all that for more points on the table.
