Sir Alex Ferguson considering regular strike partnership
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he is considering a regular strike partnership of Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov over the next few weeks.
Ferguson has said that he has been forced to play a number of different strikers in the United attack during recent games because of various reasons. He has rubbished reports that Berbatov could leave
after not making the squad for the Premier League game against Wigan Athletic.
"We have been changing the strikers quite a lot recently and I have to accept responsibility for changing it too much.
Now we are going to have a more consistent look about our team.
We have a lot of good young options but hopefully we can get Wayne Rooney back to his best and Dimitar is suited to playing with Wayne," said Ferguson, as reported
on the Sky Sports website.
Ferguson admits that it has been difficult to get Berbatov involved with the different systems his teams sometimes play. However, he insists that Berbatov is the future
of the attack and the Bulgarian seems to be rising to the occasion this season.
"It has not taken Dimitar back to square one.
In our game it is very difficult to play well every week.
We are in a competitive league. The results themselves tell you something. Getting consistency of performance from front players is very difficult.
Look around at other clubs. They are finding it much the same as us," added Ferguson.
Ferguson has resisted the temptation of revealing whether he is going to start Berbatov and Rooney together for the Champions League match with Rangers. However, he admits
it will be a tough game.
"It is an interesting situation and one we have to treat pretty seriously,"
he said.
Betting advice
Wayne Rooney seems determined to put the mess of his recent past to one side and score goals, which is what he does best. Bet on a big performance from him.
