Sir Alex Ferguson considers Arsenal title contenders
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has declared Arsenal as being the title contenders for the Premier League.
These comments came hours after the Portuguese Winger, Nani ruled out Arsenal as having any chance of lifting the Premier League title. This angered the Frenchman, Arsene Wenger, who chided http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 to be smarter than he was, despite
being in charge for more than 1600 league games.
The Arsenal coach would now be happy to be acknowledged by Sir Alex Ferguson as being the title contenders this season. Arsenal are currently two points behind Manchester United in the League tables, with United having one match
still to play.
The United manager named Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal as being the forerunners for the Premier League crown. The manager explained that although Tottenham and Manchester City were in good form this season, they still
had to play European competitions along with FA Cup ties, which would become quite a hassle for them. Both Harry Redknapp and Roberto Mancini have scarce experience in managing so many competitions together, which was highlighted by Ferguson, who became the
longest serving United manager last Sunday.
"I know Harry (Redknapp) is talking up his chances at Tottenham but they are involved in the Champions League, which is a new thing for them. If they get through the next stage it is not easy to manage European competition at that
level and doing your league programme, plus FA Cup ties. Usually experience gets you through,” claimed the United boss.
The manager added that both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 and Redknapp would have to further bolster their squad in January to stand a chance to contend for the Premier League crown, as it becomes difficult to manage so many fixtures together.
The United manager also confirmed that this may be Edwin Van Der Sar’s last season with Manchester United. Although it has not been publically announced, it is feared that the 40 year old Dutchman, who is still performing quite
well, may experience a dip in form owing to his age.
Danish shot stopper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anders-Lindegaard-c5553 has already been signed with the Premier League club, with one more shot stopper expected to be bought in the summer. However, Van Der Sar would still be United’s first choice for the remainder
of the season.
The United manager also regretted not getting Van Der Sar when Peter Schmeichel left the club in 1999. That has taught the Scotsman a lot and he is not a man who doesn’t learn from his mistakes.
"I am very lucky to have had both Van der Sar and Schmeichel," said Ferguson. But we have learnt from when we tried to replace Peter. I should have signed Van der Sar after Schmeichel but I made a mistake. Now we know where we
are going," explained the Manchester United coach.
Sir Alex also voiced his opinion of the current form of Sunderland, who is managed by former United player Steve Bruce. The manager labeled the Stadium of Light game to be the toughest away game of the season. Sunderland has already
given the minimum to all the top sides this season and Ferguson was fearful of their own performance at Old Trafford. The manager explained that Sunderland’s performance against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 was near perfect and his side would have to be on their toes this weekend.
Steve Bruce has not managed a single win over his former coach and mentor, Sir Alex Ferguson and would love nothing more than to sink his former club at Old Trafford. United have a fully fit squad and would want to keep their top
form going in the festive period of the season.
