Sir Alex Ferguson fearful of 'bad' decisions against Chelsea
Manchester United's boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, is a man who has been at the job longer than anyone else, but still he manages to axe himself on the foot at times when it comes to dealing with authorities and making remarks on the referees.
Ahead of the big game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 at Old Trafford Ferguson is making sure that he uses his words carefully while making comments about match officials.
Ferguson said that the official appointed for the match, Howard Webb, is one of the best in business. However, at the same time he did express his concerns over getting some bad decisions in a pressure game.
Sir Alex was not a happy man at the end of Manchester United’s defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. He had criticised the referee on number of decisions and said that Manchester United were robbed of three points. Martin Atkinson was the man in charge
of that game, and there were two incidents in particular that Ferguson was not happy about. First one was the tackle made by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 where Luiz was not even shown a yellow card. It was a professional tackle on United's striker and Luiz who
was on yellow already should have been sent off according to United's boss.
The second decision that got him going was the penalty decision in the second half. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Smalling seemed to have tackled Yury Zhirkov in United's box, and Ferguson thought that there was minimum contact and the penalty should not have been awarded. Frank
Lampard stepped up and knocked in the penalty with the score at 1-1 and in the end that proved to be the winner as Chelsea won the match 2-1.
Manchester United's boss made his feelings known after the match and said that his team was robbed of three points due to some bad decisions. English football Association did not take too kindly to those comments and handed Ferguson a five-match touchline
ban.
Sir Alex believes that there have been number of instances in the past where his team has been at the receiving end of some poor decisions. He also admitted that there were also incidents where his team benefitted from some dodgy decisions.
One such incident came when Manchester United were handed a penalty against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Babel-c31971 had expressed his anger by posting a doctored image of Webb on Twitter. Replays had suggested that the penalty
and the red card in that game were not entirely fair.
"We are getting the best referee, there is no doubt about that," Ferguson said. "But [getting a bad decision] is definitely our big fear. We have the players to do it all right. We just hope it's our turn for a little bit of luck."
Normally when two big teams come face to face, there is always this danger of things reaching boiling point on the pitch. At times like these there is a need for a man who can hold his own and officiate with calm in testing circumstances. It is a fact that
bad or incorrect decisions have changed many games this season. One big recent example of that was in the match between Chelsea and Tottenham. Chelsea were awarded two goals in a 2-1 win, and both of those goals should not have been allowed.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097’s shot had clearly not crossed the line, while Salomon Kalou’s winner was clearly off-side. However all of that is the past and one hopes that there are no such incidents in Sunday’s game between Manchester United and Chelsea and it is the
quality of match that makes the news rather than bad decisions.
