Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that veteran centre back Rio Ferdinand could miss the remainder of the 2010-11 season due to a troublesome calf injury.
“Rio has been out for a few weeks now,” said Sir Alex. “We are not looking at this as a short-term situation. He has not started training yet. We will be lucky to get him back for some part of the season.”
The England skipper has struggled with different injuries since the previous season and missed a major part of the 2009-10 campaign.

With United’s next match in the Premier League around the corner, they are left short of fit personnel for the game. United are expected to field a makeshift defence for their game against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
