Sir Alex Ferguson given £100m fund, Rooney signs £250k a week contract
The Glazers have promised to hand Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson £100m, so that he can buy at least two big names before the start of next season.
That is welcome news for United fans as they had been looking forward to see the big name signings following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid and Carlos Tevez to city rivals, Manchester
City.
Fergie brought in two players, Antonio Valencia and Michael Oven last year. Valencia is now out for at least 6 months after sustaining a broken ligament injury and Owen is no more than a shadow of what he
used to be after series of injuries he has faced during his career.
Moreover, former Liverpool and Real Madrid player Michael Owen has lost his pace and has not been as effective as he should have been in his United stay.
Fergie’s Youth Policy
This season United boss Ferguson continued with his youth policy and brought in rather unknown players like Chris Smalling (20 years), Javier Hernandez (22 years) and Bebe.
Smalling signed from Fulham.F.C in June 2008 after breaking through Maidstone United, but he was snapped up by Red Devils in January 2010. He has been dubbed as the new Rio Ferdinand, but for now it is too
much to ask for him to deliver as he needs time to mature.
Javier Hernandez, nicknamed Chicharito ("Little Green Pea") was rather unknown until he played for Mexico’s national side in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He made his mark by scoring two wonderful
goals. His performances so far have been good and he has been able to impress the team in general.
Tiago Manuel Dias Correia known as Bebe was another unknown entity, even in his own hometown when Sir Alex signed him for £7.4m. The United boss even admitted that he had never ever seen him play when he
decided to sign him. For now much cannot be said about him, as we have not seen him much in the United colors.
There is no doubt these players are talented but the question that arises is that, are they good enough to win the Premier League or Champions League. The answer would be no. But again who can argue Sir
Alex Ferguson; He is credited with the prestigious Treble (Champions League, Premier League and FA cup) in 1999 with a youthful side.
Key Players Retiring Soon
The Red Devils’ key players including Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Edwin van der Sar; all of whom have been performing season after season, have reached retirement age – Who knows this might be the last
season for all of them, and their departure will mean that United need to fill their boots sooner rather than later.
Sir Alex cannot afford to bring young players as their replacement and expect to win immediately. Now that Ferguson has been promised the cash by the Glazers, it will be expected of him to bring in big name
players at the club.
Transfer Targets for United
Top targets for United include the Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder, Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko and Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer. If United can sign get hold of these players then they might well become
a great threat, once again, in the coming years.
Rooney signs whooping £250k a week contract
Rooney has penned a new lucrative 5 year deal; with a weekly salary of a staggering £250k, he will become the highest paid player in the country. It includes £160k a week basic salary, and £90k a week for
the player’s image rights.
Falsifying all the talk of United being cash strapped after a debt of £720m, this was the last ditch effort by the Glazers to secure the future of United and show that Manchester United is still the biggest
club in the world and they too can spend huge amounts of money.
All that Rooney needs to do now is prove that he is worth all that money. He is injured at the moment and is expected to be back in action against Manchester City.
