Sir Alex Ferguson hails ‘world-class’ performance by Wayne Rooney
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has lauded http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 on his performance during the win against West Bromwich Albion.
The Red Devils travelled to The Hawthorns on Saturday in search of their 1st away win since 24thOctober 2010, when they beat Stoke City by 2-1.
United took the lead through Rooney in just the 2nd minute; the goal was Wayne’s first goal from open play since March last year.
The home side responded back and got their equalizer in the 14th minute, through James Morrison.
Albion were unlucky not to get a penalty in the 1st half, when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Neville-c14447 unfairly tackled Graham Dorrans in the 18-yard box, but to the despair of The Baggies
faithful , the referee waived play on.
Had the spot-kick been given, Neville would certainly have been sent-off as he was the last man between the striker and the goal. However, United were lucky and the game
remained tied at 1-1 until the end of the 1st half.
In the 2nd half, West Brom were awarded a penalty when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 brought down Jerome Thomas in the box. However, Peter Odenwingie fired his shot wide and
spurned the golden opportunity to score.
Minutes after, United took the lead through substitute Havier Hernandez. Rooney was once again involved in the goal, as he was the man who assisted Chicharito’s goal.
In a post-match interview Ferguson commended the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international’s performance on the night.
He said, “He showed courage. I thought that performance was world-class. He is a bit unlucky not to score a couple of extra goals. But that one today will give him unbelievable
confidence. Hopefully he kicks on from there.”
West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo was also regretted the missed penalty and admitted that his team lost the game due to their own mistakes.
He said, “We were awarded a penalty and we missed it. In the Premier League, if you don't take those chances then you'll be in danger of losing. We are doing a lot of work
and not getting any reward. We need to improve and we will try to make it better. I can't blame my players for this because the commitment is there.”
The win takes Manchester United to 41 points off 19 games. Their next match in the Premier League is on 4th January against Stoke City at Old Trafford.
