Sir Alex Ferguson hands a piece of advice to Chelsea
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has given valuable advice to archrivals Chelsea and said that the Londoners will have to assemble a big squad if they want to contend for trophies at the end of the season.
Chelsea have been on a poor run of form in recent weeks and have slipped to 4th place in the English Premier League title race. The Blues have only scored 6 points off the possible 16 and have won just 1 league match in last 7 attempts. Their
last victory was in November when they defeated local rivals Fulham FC at Stamford Bridge.
Ferguson pointed out that Chelsea’s woeful form has been due to the lack of depth in their current squad and due to injuries suffered by the key players.
The Champions missed the likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard through injury and the side’s reliance on the services of the English duo was exposed in their absence.
Fergie also pointed out that the departure of experienced campaigners such as Michael Ballack, Deco, and Juliano Belletti hampered the progress of the club as their young replacements had not been impressive.
He said, “Their plan was always to start introducing younger players and I think that's a good thing but it can backfire if you get injuries. You need big squads these days because the number of matches and the intensity of matches does produce injuries.
There's no question that having a big squad helps.”
The Scott also commented on the importance of Sunday’s epic battle between the two heavy weights of English football.
The Blues host the Red Devils at The Bridge at the weekend in a clash that is being dubbed as a title-decider.
United will feel confident going into the crucial encounter after being in an emphatic run of form. In their last match, they beat title-challengers Arsenal FC at Old Trafford to establish a lead on top of the pile in the domestic league table.
The 68-year-old master tactician said, “That's a massive game now. We used to have a terrific record at Chelsea but not so much over the last few years and we haven't won there for eight years. It's a big game for us and we'll be ready for it. We couldn't
get there sooner. We've got good players and they have all had big-game experience for years now. It's not as if it is new to them.”
