Sir Alex Ferguson is happy with his squad

The Barclays Premier League season is less than a month away and teams are finalizing their squads for the start of the 2010-11 season. Former champions Manchester United, who after winning 3 consecutive seasons lost the title to Chelsea are all set to once again try and win back the title.
Team boss Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he is satisfied with the players in his squad, and believes his team can once again win the league title which they unfortunately lost at the tail end of the season.
Red Devil fans were hoping that there would be some big name imports before the season begins, but apart from a couple of signings there has not been much activity in the transfer market by Manchester United.
Manchester United’s talisman Wayne Rooney carried the team on his own for most part of the season, but when he injured himself in the last few weeks of the campaign it was felt that United needed another formidable striker upfront. Berbatov was believed to be a bit lethargic and lacked the efficiency and mobility to handle things on his own in attack.
Fans wanted a big name signing up front; Ferguson did sign the Mexican striker Javier Hernandez who performed remarkably well in the 2010 World Cup for his country. However, still he does not fulfil the need of a world class goal poacher for United.
Ferguson though believes that he has enough in attack to win the title back, despite criticism for the Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov during last season. Ferguson has said that Berbatov is a quality player and makes a good strike team with Rooney. He said that the duo play with contrasting styles and that is always a good thing.
Ferguson said that last season’s free signing Michael Owen is recovering well in time and will be back to 100 % by the time the season kicks off. The manager has high expectations from the proven English goal scorer.
He further said that the Mexican striker will be a great addition to the team and will be able to adjust quickly with the team. The Scotsman said that the world saw what he is capable of in the World Cup and said he is sure that the young Mexican will be able to make a great pairing with Rooney or Berbatov, whosoever he is teamed up with.
The only other signing for United in the closed season has been Chris Smalling. The combined amount spent on the duo is just 16 million pounds, which is nowhere close to the amount the Red Devils are reputed to spend in the transfer window.
Despite Sir Alex saying that he does not need to buy any big names in the transfer window, there is a feeling among experts and fans that the Glazer family that owns the club have not made much cash available to him. They fear that the squad is not strong enough to compete with the powerful squad of Chelsea.
Sir Alex Ferguson said that he cannot talk about other clubs but he is happy with his squad, and is under no restrictions from the club owners.
Ferguson said he is satisfied with his team’s performance in the pre season tour of North America and said things are moving in the right direction.
The manager however did show some concern over the reoccurrence of Owen Hargreaves’ injury and said the English Midfielder may not be able to feature in the team anytime soon.
Manchester United has won 18 league titles in total and since the Premier league Era they have won more titles than any other team. The team did go through a dry spell from 2003 to 2006 when Arsenal and Chelsea shared the titles. Red Devils hit back hard and won 3 titles on the trot and Ferguson believes his team is capable of once again making the same comeback.
