Sir Alex Ferguson not happy with the new EPL rules
The new season in the English Premier League is set to start in less than a month. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he is facing tough decisions ahead of the season, due to the new rules introduced by the Premier League.
The new rules state that, every club has to name a pool of 25 players. There have to be 8 players in the list that have been with the club for at least 3 years before turning 21. Players who are currently under 21 do not count.
The list will be required by the Premier League after the transfer window closes, and if there are some changes in the January transfer window then it will have to be updated.
Sir Alex said that he is not sure about certain players who are still recovering from injury. He said that players like Owen Hargreaves and Anderson are still on road to recovery, but he is not sure if they will be able to take relevant part in the team before January.
Owen Hargreaves has been injured for a long time now; he went through 2 knee surgeries and was expected to be back this season. He had another setback recently and no date has been given for his recovery period. Brazilian Midfielder Anderson is nursing a crucial ligament injury and is expected to be available in September.
Ferguson said that surely is a big problem for him, but he will wait till the last possible moment to make his decision. He said that he will reassess his squad and condition of his injured players, and only then he will be able to decide who he wants to include in the 25 man list. He went on to say that he does have most of the names figured out and will make a decision on the rest later.
Ferguson though would be pleased to have his new signing, the Mexican striker Javier Hernandez. The front man joined the team in United States after an extended holiday following the World Cup. Ferguson is now thinking of whether to field him in the next tour match or not.
The manager said that the team will have to look into his physical fitness and asses what he has been up to.
Ferguson said that it will be great if he does join the team on the field, because there is a massive Mexican population that lives in Houston.
Manchester United manager said that it is important to get him in the thick of things as soon as possible, but he said that he will talk to his new recruit first and asses his mental fitness following the World Cup.
Scotsman Darren Fletcher and Irish international John O’Shea are not expected to be part of the team, as they have picked up minor injuries. The pair also did not feature in the last match that United lost to Kansas City on Sunday.
Ferguson said that it is normal for players to get minor injuries while on tour, but the team will make sure that they do not end up aggravating the problems. The manager went on to say that other than the 2 rest of the squad is fully fit. He added that it is the 2nd last game of the pre season tour and probably the most important one too.
Ferguson said that MLS all stars have had a good record against English teams, and have not yet been beaten in such a match. He added that it will be great for United to be the first team to finally beat the all stars and go into the final match on a high.
The United boss also said that USA team manager Bob Bradley can have a good future in the English game, earlier the man who took USA to the World Cup was linked heavily with a move to Fulham.
