Sir Alex Ferguson playing mind games with Chelsea
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has started off his signature mind games with table tops Chelsea, claiming that it would’ve been disappointing had Chelsea not picked up all the points in their easy run-in the premier league.
Chelsea have been in top form this season, winning 6 out of 7 premier league fixtures this season while suffering just one defeat to Manchester City two weeks ago. On the other hand, Manchester United currently sits on the third spot, with five points between
them and Chelsea. However, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was unconcerned by the start of the defending Champions and claimed that he expected such a result from the Blues.
On the question of whether Manchester United could afford to drop more points, the manager replied that it is inevitable that each side is going to drop points sooner or later.
"If you look at Chelsea's start to the season, you'd have expected them to have won all those games, so the position they're in doesn't surprise me. Meanwhile, we've had tricky trips to Fulham and Everton then played Liverpool at home. Those are difficult
matches. Liverpool, Arsenal and ourselves have all played top sides early on. Chelsea's sterner tests are still to come," claimed the Manchester United manager
However, the Manchester United manager was not happy by the way his players threw away the points at Everton, Fulham and Bolton and blamed the players for lacking the killer touch needed to finish off the oppositions. The manager stated that the current
players lack the finishing touch and that was what the side needed to do. The manager pointed out that even when his side were 3-1 up at Goodison Park, they had the opportunity to find more goals in order to really end the game for their opponents. Yet, the
players wasted those opportunities, which concluded in a poor result. United managed to concede two goals in injury time which, according to Ferguson, was just “unthinkable”. The manager highlighted that his side currently lacks the ability to finish off the
match and that is what he is working on. The manager claimed that the side has already managed to score three times on four occasions, which shows that the side is not finding it hard to score goals.
The only thing that is lacking from the side is that killer touch, which absolutely tears the opposition apart. Ferguson had full faith in his players and knew that his players would also be disappointed by the setbacks. The manager claimed that the players
would have been disheartened with the result and they are the ones who would suffer in the end. That is because they know it in their hearts that the current team has the capability to lift the trophy and it is their own failures that has cost them the points.
The manager backed his team’s performances in the league so far, despite being criticized with their inability to find a win away from home. The manager stated that even though his side is playing in top form, the points lost at Everton and Fulham gives
a vivid impression of the team.
The manager concluded the statement claiming that it was disappointing to lose critical points and it was important for them to learn from the mistakes.
Manchester United will be facing newly promoted West Bromwich Albion when the premier league resumes on Oct 16th. West Bromwich can prove to be a tricky side provided their recent 3-2 victory at the Emirates and United would want to get back to
their winning ways.
