Sir Alex Ferguson plays down Champions League final ticket price
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has voiced his opinion regarding the price of the UEFA Champions League final tickets.
The final would be played at the prestigious Wembley Stadium on 28 May, 2011 and the prices of the tickets are already sky high.
Ferguson labelled the price hike for the tickets to be not less than a ‘Killer’ for the adoring fans who would be supporting their favourite clubs in the final.
“It's unbelievable and disappointing. It's a killer and a corporate deal, that. Managers and players can't do anything about it. I don't know what you can do. You have a booking fee also of £26 or whatever it is, so dearie me,” stated the United manager.
Union of European Football Associations, who are responsible for this yearly tournament, stated that these prices are the highest ever but there was nothing they could do to avoid it.
The most ordinary of tickets at the general sale would be worth 150 pounds, along with a 26-pound additional fee for administration expenses. The cheapest that the fans can get is from their respective clubs, which would be a category four ticket worth 80 pounds.
UEFA Champions League is the most elite club competition in the world and generates more revenue each year than the FIFA World Cup.
Every club in Europe wants to take part in this annual tournament, but only the top 3 or 4 teams from each European country are allowed to participate. English Premier League teams have enjoyed most success in the past five seasons, including two wins, (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Manchester United) and reaching the semi-final of the tournament on most occasions.
The price hike would hurt most fans but it is highly improbable that the venue for the final would not be sold out.
