Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson plays down Manchester United’s rise over Liverpool – English Premier League news
Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has claimed that his side’s march to the English Premier League title this season was never fueled by the desire to overtake Liverpool as the most successful club in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. The Scot’s comments come just after
United secured their record-breaking 19th Premier League crown with a 1-1 draw against Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 at Ewood Park.
The Red Devils have now taken their place at the top of the English foodchain, surpassing Liverpool’s previous record for the most number of Premier League trophies. It is something manager Sir Alex Ferguson had dreamt of when he first took charge at Old
Trafford back in 1986.
Ferguson had famously said, “I am going to knock http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 off their perch.”
However, the Scot has claimed that he never actually made such a comment, and he insists that his side were never motivated by overtaking the Reds at the summit of the English top flight.
Ferguson said, “I don't know if I ever actually said that about knocking Liverpool off their perch. This means a lot; winning a 19th title is a great achievement. Not so much because we have gone past Liverpool, but because we have now won more league titles
than anyone else, as well as more FA Cups.”
The United boss added, “That's what Manchester United should be about.”
The Red Devils have had their critics this season, but Sir Alex believes that all the bad press United got throughout the season was unwarranted.
Sir Alex concluded, “It's not fair to say it's been a bad league this season; it's been a hard league to win. But our home form has been terrific throughout the season and, when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 had their blip, we managed to stay strong."
Manchester United have to play one more league match against Blackpool, but with the title already under their belts, the Red Devils can look forward to the upcoming UEFA Champions League final against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604. That match will take place on the 28th of
May, at the historic Wembley stadium.
