Sir Alex Ferguson plays down Wayne Rooney’s goalless run
Sir Alex Ferguson has played down Wayne Rooney’s goalless run for Manchester United. The striker, who recently returned from an ankle injury, has not netted a single goal from open play for Manchester United since March 2010. Rooney’s only goal of the season
so far in the Premier League was scored from a penalty against West Ham in August.
Wayne has also had a troubled season with regard to his private life as well. Then in the first week of November controversy emerged over his contract negotiations at Manchester United. However, United have been doing well in the league despite Wayne’s goalless
form, as Dimitar Berbatov has been on fire for the Red Devils. The Bulgarian target man netted two goals against Sunderland in United’s last league game, to take his goal tally in the Premier League to 13.
Speaking about his sides two-goal win over Sunderland, Sir Alex Ferguson said, "Wayne had a couple of tries today. He was very unlucky with the chip and there were a couple of shots saved by the goalkeeper. He is getting there. The important thing is he
is playing well. That is refreshing."
Ferguson also spoke about United’s overall performance, as he highlighted http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254’s goals. He said, "Dimitar could have scored four or five today. He had some terrific opportunities. I was disappointed with the score at half time. We hit the bar
and the post. Their keeper has made a couple of good saves, and we played some really good football. It was exciting stuff but then we just seemed to go into third gear."
