Sir Alex Ferguson reveals Edwin van der Sar inspired players in half time against Everton
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar motivated the players in the half-time of the 1-0 victory against Everton on Saturday, April 23, 2011.
United created several opportunities in the first half but struggled to find the back of the net. Ferguson admits that the Dutchman’s words were so inspiring and it drove the players to win the game.
United clearly looked far better in the second half and bombarded the Everton defence with so many attacks but without any outcome. Their never-say-die attitude pushed them to seal the winner in the 84th minute of the game, when Javier Hernandez
headed home to give United the lead.
With van der Sar due to announce his retirement from professional football at the end of the ongoing 2010-11 season, Ferguson is only hoping that replacing the great Dutchman should not be an impossible task.
Talking to the reporters Ferguson said, “To hear him at half-time in the Everton game was absolutely wonderful. The way he motivated the players was really good to listen to. Edwin van der Sar is one of the best and I hope it's not impossible to replace
him.”
The 40-year-old played a huge role in United’s victory not only for his inspirational words to the players but he also made a fantastic save to deny http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Rodwell-c17462 in the second half. The former Aberdeen manager is full of praise for his goalkeeper and believes
that it was a key moment in the win for his team.
“Edwin made a fantastic save, an absolutely brilliant save, especially as it took a little deflection,” added the long-standing manager.
The win against Everton certainly pushed United very close towards their 19th Premier League title, which will see the Red Devils overtake http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.
