Sir Alex Ferguson rules out January signings
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled out the possibility of any new signings this January.
The former Premier League champions are currently five points behind Chelsea but Ferguson has brushed off suggestions that he needs to strengthen the state of his side.
"We won't be buying in January, definitely not.
If you want someone to play in Europe, you are limited right away. There are hundreds of players cup-tied.
You have five to six months left of the season," he said.
United does already have a very large squad and it's important to remember that quality players are currently out of action injured. However, there is no doubt that United
lacks a really big name signing that would ease some pressure.
Squad and injuries
When considering the United squad and the injuries within that squad it is easy to understand Ferguson's comments. United is laced with many great players that are all
chomping at the bit to play in the team.
The side is currently playing without Ryan Giggs, Antonio Valencia and Michael Owen. These are three very good players that will aid the team at various points during the
rest of the season.
However, you cannot ignore the fact that the club could do with another big name player. Striker Wayne Rooney doubted his future at the club because of this very issue.
There exist serious questions over the club's financial ability and capability to attract the biggest stars in football.
"I will have Antonio Valencia
back hopefully towards the end of February, which is a new player coming back. If Michael Owen
gets back, it is another new player coming back. So with the squad I've got, I don't see any reason for us to buy anyone," he added.
Betting advice
Manchester United is still fighting on all fronts but the club's position behind Chelsea in the Premier League suggests the title could be destined for another season in
West London. Bet in play with United for the time being as this is a much safer option.
