Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson has admitted that his team have learnt from their woeful display in the UEFA Champions League last season. Manchester United were eliminated from the Champions League in the group stages as they failed to put
up convincing performances against the likes of Benfica, Basel and Otelul Galati.
The Red Devils started their group stage campaign with a draw against Benfica but things disintegrated for them throughout the group stage due to which they were then required to win their final group stage match against F.C Basel.
Ferguson’s team failed to win against the Swiss outfit and thus finished third in their group behind the likes of Benfica and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079.
Sir Alex Ferguson has now conceded that United have learnt from their previous mistakes and hopefully they will do better in the European Cup when the next season kicks off. Before their flop in the Champions League last season,
United were finalists in the competition in 2011 when they lost to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 at the Wembley stadium.
Their last UEFA Champions league triumph came in 2008 when they bested http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shinji-Kagawa-c33364 and
Powell are on display.
Sir Alex said, "That definitely won't happen next season. There's no chance of that. Over the last few years, we've used the group stage as an opportunity to play the youngsters. Last season it backfired on us. We changed the team
too much. We won't be doing that this season.”
He added, "I just think we were careless. The killer was the game against Basel at home [which ended 3-3]. We could have been 5-1 up at half-time but were really careless in that game. We were unlucky against Benfica at home because
we played well, but that Basel game was a real killer for us.”
