Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has said that he expects his striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254, to get to the 25 goal mark this season. The manager’s comments came after Berbatov scored twice in the win against Sunderland at home.
The double in the game took the season tally for Berbatov to 13 goals, while his strike partner, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736, has not yet been able to get on the score sheet from open play. Berbatov has been a player who scores in big chunks. This season, he scored 3 against
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, 5 against Blackburn and 2 against Sunderland. But the manager expects a lot more from his front man and said that Berba has to maintain the vein of form that he is in. Ferguson said that it so often happens to players that they go through phases
that even the easiest of chances do not go their way. He pointed to the lack of goals from Wayne Rooney and said that there is no doubt that Wayne is playing some of the best football in the team, but it is his luck that he just cannot get himself on the score
sheet.
While commenting on the match against Arsenal where Ferguson decided to drop Berbatov, which was right after Blackburn game where Berbatov had scored 5 goals, Ferguson said that it had nothing to do with Berbatov; the manager added that there are times when
the team needs to play with just one striker up front. And at times Berba is not the ideal man to be there on his own. Ferguson said that his players are all aware of the tactics employed in certain games, and Berba was also okay with that. Sir Alex said that
at the end of the day it is never about any individual and the interest of the team is what matters, so as Manchester United ended up winning the game there were no complaints from anyone.
Once again while commenting on the goal tally of Berbatov, Ferguson said that he has gone to 13 goals now and has a great chance of getting to 25. He added that whenever a player goes on to score that many goals in one season, normally it helps the team
a long way towards winning the title.
Ferguson said:
"But his form has been terrific. He is on 13 goals now. If he can get us to 25, we need one more to get around that figure, then we will have a good chance."
Apart from Ferguson, another man from United who expects a lot more from Dimitar Berbatov this season is the French left back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231. The former French captain said that whenever they are in practice, he always encourages Berba to score goals, and
when he is not able to score he always says that he will score in the match.
Evra said: "I keep moaning at him when he doesn't score in training, but he always says, 'don't worry, I will score in the game'. He showed me that"
Sunderland were missing no less than 7 key players in the game against United. Team manager Steve Bruce said that he was not at all worried about his team’s performance as he knew that a big chunk of his first choice players were missing. Bruce, who is a
former United player and also a pupil of Sir Alex, said that a man like Ferguson always pin points the weakness of an opponent. He added that United must have known that their opponents were missing players in the centre of midfield and defence. Bruce said
if one looks closely that is exactly from where the attacks from United came from, so once again it is a compliment to the tactical brilliance of the manager and also the skill and execution of his players.
