Sir Alex Ferguson still positive about Wayne Rooney
Manchester United’s boss, Sir Alex Ferguson is calm about Wayne Rooney’s injury and hopes that the player would be back soon.
Wayne Rooney seems to be in a world of trouble since the end of last season. A player, who had earlier bagged 34 goals last season, managed to score nothing in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. With just one penalty goal for United so far this season, the English
forward now faces yet another setback as he is expected to be out of action for another 2-3 weeks due to an ankle injury. This injury is said to be similar to the one he had picked up in March, which marked his final goal of that season.
Earlier, despite having given the time line of at least 2 weeks, Rooney had returned to active duty within 8 days and had also played against Bayern Munich in the home leg. The manager, thus, expects yet another return from the 24-year-old. But with allegations
regarding his personal life still going strong, it is not expected that the striker would be hitting top form anytime soon. Rooney might also be sitting out in the Champions League encounter with Bursaspor and a trip to highly talented Stoke City.
Still, Fergi likes to think on the positive side and expects the 27 million pound hit man to be back in the home fixture against the newly promoted West Bromwich Albion on 16th October 2010. In this case, the striker would be missing only 3 fixtures
with one being his national side’s against Montenegro. "Wayne has done quite well with his recovery from injury in the past. It is a straightforward ankle injury. And it is not the same one he did in Munich", Ferguson maintained. Without Rooney, Federico
Macheda and Javier Hernandez would be expected to play behind the in-form strikers, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen.
Meanwhile, Rooney’s absence would also prove to be a major setback for England’s manager, Fabio Capello, who is already without Frank Lampard, Michael Dawson, Jermain Defoe, Bobby Zamora and Theo Walcott. Manchester City’s in-form midfielder, James Milner,
would also not be available due to his suspension. With Wayne joining Ryan Giggs and Antonio Valencia on the sidelines, the veteran midfielder, Paul Scholes would also not be featuring for a minimum of 10 days period owing to fatigue.
With all this in the offing, Manchester United don’t look to be the side who can seriously challenge for the premier league title. Moreover, Chelsea suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Manchester City, but they would surely be looking
for redemption against Arsenal on the weekend. With so many fixtures stacked up in a week, Sir Alex Ferguson would need a lot of squad rotation and favorable results in order to stand ground in Europe as well as in the premier league.
