Sir Alex Ferguson worried by lack of ʺkiller instinct”
Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, has admitted he is worried at the way his side has given up points from winning positions this season. The Scot declared: "This present team
doesn't kill off sides as well as they should. That killer instinct just isn't there at the moment and it's something we need to develop.”
Fergie would’ve been furious at seeing his side throw away leads late on at both Fulham and Everton this season, and acknowledges slip-ups like those may well prove pivotal at the end
of the campaign. “We didn't like letting those points slip away and it's crucial that we don't make too many more similar mistakes this season,” the manager stated.
There have been plenty of critics circulating regarding the state of United’s defence, especially when Rio Ferdinand is out injured – which is becoming more and more frequent these days.
It’s a problem that needs to be sorted sooner rather than later, otherwise the gap to Chelsea will be irretrievable come the business end of the season.
Fergie went on to claim his side haven’t struggled at the other end though, insisting: "We haven't had a problem scoring goals. We got three against Liverpool, Everton and West Ham, two
away at Fulham, three in the Community Shield; that suggests we don't have difficulty finding the net.”

Those statistics don’t lie, but expecting the side to come up with two or more goals a game in order to make up for the fact the team is leaking goals at the other end, is no way to win
a title. Indeed, United’s title hopes may well depend on the amount of games Ferdinand manages to play in, as when he plays, the defence is a different animal. If Ferdinand proves to be too unreliable, perhaps a dip into the transfer market is required for
Sir Alex.
