Sir Alex backs struggling Hodgson
Sir Alex Ferguson momentarily put aside Manchester United’s storied rivalry with Liverpool to declare his support for the under-fire Roy Hodgson.
Ferguson’s comments come just before Sunday’s FA Cup third round clash between the two clubs. Speaking on Hodgson’s abilities as a manager, the United boss said, “Roy Hodgson doesn't need to justify his record as a manager. His experience and performance
level everywhere he's been have been terrific, so I'm not going to get into that.”
Sir Alex Ferguson now becomes the fourth high profile name to announce his support for Roy Hodgson this week. Liverpool legends Kevin Keegan, John Barnes and Steve McManaman had previously given the struggling Reds manager a vote of confidence. However,
all the support will count for naught if Liverpool lose their next match. One more slip-up will almost certainly result in Hodgson’s sacking.
The Reds manager has been under intense pressure in recent weeks, following a string of terrible results which saw Liverpool drop down to 12th place. It is widely believed that anything less than a win at Old Trafford would spell the end of Hodgson’s

encounter lightly, despite Liverpool’s recent slump in form.
Sir Alex said, “The FA Cup is a tournament you can't take for granted. The big difference on Sunday will be that Liverpool will have 9,000 fans at Old Trafford. They're only allowed 3,000 fans in a normal Premier League game, whereas in the FA Cup the percentage
goes up and they're given the whole end. It definitely generates a fantastic atmosphere.”
