Sir Alex calls the Premier League a five-horse affair
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes this seasons’ Premier League has become a five-horse race, and has predicted that it would take at least 82 points for a team to be crowned champions.
In recent years, 90 points usually guaranteed a title success, and Manchester United and Arsenal have both reached the 90-mark in the last decade. Whereas, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 broke the 90-point haul twice under Jose Mourinho.
However this time, the Premier League title race has become wide open and all the top five teams still have a great chance of glory. Although Manchester United are sitting top of the table, the title is not guaranteed. Teams like Bolton, Sunderland and newly
promoted West Brom have become a hurdle for all the top teams, as they are setting a new trend of a mid-table or even Europa League battle.
Sir Alex has already labeled this season as the “dream league” and is sure that the title will be decided on the last day of the season.
The United boss was responding to comments made by former assistant Brian Kidd, who is now with Manchester City. Kidd said that they title is now Manchester United's to lose. However Sir Alex has been very careful to point out that Chelsea, who have not
hit the top gear, aren’t done and dusted. He also believes that after being unbeaten in their last 10 matches, Tottenham Hotspur are worthy contenders for the Premier League this season too.
It is a very good sign that Manchester United have games in hand over their rivals. However this week’s draw away to Birmingham will not have pleased the manager, given United’s poor away form this season. Winning matches away from home against mid-table
sides is going to be the key to winning the title for the top five teams.
Sir Alex said that his side still has tough away games against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal, but he believes his players can cope with big game situations. Today Manchester United travel to the Hawthorns to face West Brom, who have been
exciting to watch under Roberto Di Matteo, and will look to start the New Year with an away win.
Sir Alex believes that the Hawthorns would be a great place for Rooney to score a goal from open play, something that he hasn’t done since March 2010. Rooney has formed a good partnership with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254, but hasn’t been able to back up his performances
with goals. However, Sir Alex has backed his striker to do well as he has no shortage of confidence and skill.
