Sir Alex not troubled by Rooney’s goal drought
Last season, Wayne Rooney was considered by many to be the best player in the English Premier League. The England international was scoring seemingly at will, finishing the season with 34 goals in all competitions. Rooney suffered a slight ligament injury
in March during the Champions League match against Bayern Munich. That was the point where it all started to go downhill for the striker. Even though Rooney was out for only 3 weeks, he looks like a shadow of his former self. Rooney has failed to score a single
goal from open play since his recovery.
His goalless streak continued yesterday during Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford. Rooney once again failed to get his name on the scoresheet. Both goals were scored by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254. The Bulgarian is making quite a name for himself,
especially since Rooney’s spectacular decline in form. Berbatov has now increased his tally to 13 goals in the current season, making him the top goalscorer in the League at this point. Rooney is not even in the top 10.
However, Sir Alex Ferguson says he is not worried about the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 striker’s form. The United manager believes that Rooney will be back to his former self very soon. Sir Alex said, “Wayne had a couple of tries. He was very unlucky with the chip and there
were a couple of shots saved by the goalkeeper. He is getting there. The important thing is he is playing well. That is refreshing.”
This season, Wayne Rooney has been grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons. The striker was at the center of controversy after reports of adultery surfaced. More recently, Rooney’s future at Manchester United came under speculation when it was revealed
that he wanted to leave the club. Rooney’s off-field problems seem to have affected his performance on the pitch. The England international is currently in the midst of the longest goalless run of his professional career. However, if last night’s performance
is anything to go by, it looks like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 is indeed regaining his form. If Manchester United are to win the title this year, they will be hoping that Rooney returns to his former self very soon.
