Sir Des Champs looking to secure eighth consecutive victory in the Growise Champion Novice Chase
Sir Des Champs’s performance is highly anticipated by his connections, as he is expected to excel in the Grade 1 Growise Champion Novice Chase, which will be held at Punchestown on 24th April, 2012.
With seven consecutive victories under his belt, he is likely to add another one to his record.
Frisco Depot, Mossey Joe, Ordinary Man and Shop DJ will also compete for €49,600 over 3 miles and 1 furlong on a surface which has been labelled soft.
Sir Des Champs, son of Robin Des Champs, out of mare, Liste En Tete, started his career on 8th November, 2009.
After a few unsuccessful starts, he finally showed development, as he bagged the first victory of his career in the Prix de l'Yonne (Newcomers' Hurdle) (Half-Bred C & G) at Auteuil, where he defeated, Satou by 1 ½ lengths on 14th March,
2010.
Ever since then, the six-year-old gelding has maintained his composure throughout his career and has not been defeated.
Trained by W.P Mullins for owners, Gigginstown House Stud, the runner entered the seasonal debut as the evening’s favourite, where he was mounted by rider, Davy Russell.
The duo performed in an incredible manner, and landed a narrow victory. Half a length ahead of, Fists Of Fury in the Grade 2 Boylesports.com Bet On Your Mobile Novice Chase at Leopardstown on 28th January, 2012.
Since the bay gelding has an impeccable record, he is expected to down this race as well. Today, he will race with a chance of 1 to 5 as the favourite.
Mossey Joe is one of the contenders, who can challenge, Sir Des Champs, on the track. Trained by D. McNamara, the nine-year-old gelding has had a very successful career.
The son of Moscow Society, out of mare Delmiano, has scored six times out of nine starts. He will compete for the first time this year, but he has raised the expectations of his connections because of his previous performances.
Owned by William Clifford, the chestnut gelding raced as a favourite with a shot of 5 to 4 in the Dromahane Chase at Cork on 27th May, 2011, where he was coupled with jockey, Barry Geraghty.
Together they took the track by storm and defeated, The Last Derby, by 3 ½ lengths.
Both of these runners have a terrific record, with their form and talent, each of them will aim to dominate the track today. Sir Des Champs has the best odds, but it will not be an easy victory for him.
