Sir Des Champs to lock horns with Long Run at Punchestown
Sir Des Champs and Long Run are all set to fight it out in the Bet Online With TheTote.com Punchestown Gold Cup in Ireland on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. The winner of the Grade 1 event will be awarded a cash prize of €90,000 in the end.
At the moment, Sir Des Champs is rated as the favourite to succeed, as he is in very good form and will not make life easy for his opponents. However, he has not managed to win the confidence of the bookies entirely, as he has not been declared as the outright
favourite to succeed.
The reason for this is that he will have to cope with some extremely good challengers, who are also in terrific form and have the ability to take everyone by surprise at the end of the day. Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether who manages to
win more bets from the punters.
Sir Des Champs was unable to win his most recent race at Cheltenham and had to settle for the runner up spot in the end. Despite that, his team is quite confident right now and has full faith in his abilities.
According to his trainer Willie Mullins, “I thought he ran a great race at Cheltenham and if he can do that again then you'd have to be very hopeful. He came out of Cheltenham well and we've been happy with his preparation for today's race. He has good form
over the course and won a Grade 1 novice over the same distance at the festival a year ago.”
Overall, the seven-year-old gelding has participated in a total of 16 races, winning nine of them, which clearly shows that he is a fantastic competitor and it is not easy for anyone to battle against him.
On the other hand, his rival Long Run should also not be taken lightly at all, as his record is a good one too. He has managed to succeed in 14 races out of 25 attempts.
His trainer Nicky Henderson stated, “I've been very pleased with Long Run since Cheltenham. He worked very well indeed at home last week and he has been bright and perky since he got here.”
