Sir Frank Williams confident that his team’s performance will improve after 2012 – Formula 1 news
Sir Frank Williams has recently stated that he is confident about his team Williams’ performance after the 2012 Formula 1 season as the team recently decided to make some major changes to its management and administration.
“Well we've got a few new people in the team now in Mike Coughlan who takes on the role of Chief Engineer, Mark Gillan who will take the role of Chief Operations Engineer and Jason Somerville as Head of Aerodynamics, so it's full steam ahead,” Williams told
the media.
The team used to produce championship-winning cars in the late 90s and even in the early 2000s, the team secured a number of wins and scored some pretty good results as a result of which they were considered as one of the top running teams of the sport.
In 2011 on the other hand, the team faced its worst start to a Formula 1 season and up until now, they have scored just 4 points in the constructors’ standings in 11 races which puts them in 9th place in the standings.
Either way, the team is hoping for the best possible results in the future with their new roster and they claim that they have already started working on their new car which is going to be relatively better than their current car.
“I would guess it will be six months until we have another product coming out of the design office, wind tunnel etc and we hope it will be markedly better. Anyway, that's step one of the rebuilding process,” he added.
Nevertheless, the team must go through 8 more races this season and since they are currently the worst ‘points scoring’ team on the grid, they must improve their performance and at least end the season on a decent note.
It seems that the team is not the same anymore despite the fact that they still have a driver like Rubens Barrichello who is not happy with the team’s performance either up until now in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
