Sir Frank Williams leaves Williams board of directors – Formula 1 news
Williams team have announced that Sir Frank Williams will leave their board of directors at the end of March 2012.
However, Williams will keep on attending the board meeting and will stay in the team as the team principal.
Williams team was founded in 1977 by Sir Williams and so far it has won seven drivers’ championships and nine constructors’ championships. Williams said that he will turn 70 next month and it is probably the time for him to gradually handover the wheel of
the team.
“I turn 70 in April and I have decided to signal the next stage in the gradual but inevitable process of handing over the reins to the next generation by stepping down from the board at the end of this month,” Williams said. “This is not as dramatic a move
as it may appear: I shall continue to work full-time as team principal and I shall continue to attend all Board meetings as observer. I also remain the majority shareholder of Williams Grand Prix Holdings PLC.”
Sir Frank’s daughter, Claire Williams will join the board as director of marketing and communications, in place of Dominic Reilly on April 1, 2012. Chairman of Williams, Adam Parr said about the joining of Claire that she had been working in the team for
10 years and had been demonstrating excellent skills and capabilities in her positions in the team.
Moreover, the board is having a view that Claire’s arrival will surely help the team in its operations as her job will be bringing new partners into the teams including the effective representation of the team.
Furthermore, Parr said that he would like to express his gratitude to Dominic Reilly who had dedicated eight years of his life to the team and had been working in the team as a great asset. Reilly had been successful in bringing the partners into the team
and establishing long-term relationships with the partners.
Parr said that Reilly had planned to start a new enterprise with the due support of Williams and the team wish him all the success in his endeavours.
