Sir Henry Cecil sends forth Midday and Twice Over to win him the Juddmonte International at York
The newly Knighted trainer, Sir Henry Cecil, is deploying his pair, Midday and Twice Over, in the all important, $1.1million, Group 1 Juddmonte International, which reeled in a field of six runners, over a distance of 1 ¼ miles.
The race will be run on the historic York racecourse, which is holding one of the prestigious horse racing festivals in the British calendar, the Yorkshire Ebor festival, offering four highly contested days of racing from 17 August, 2011.
The 5-year-old brown mare, Midday, has had a successful run in the year 2011, with 2 wins and 2 runner-up finishes out of 4 starts.
The daughter of Oasis Dream out of Midsummer by Kingmambo, Midday is coming off a win in the Group 1 Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes for fillies and mares at Glorious Goodwood on 30 July, 2011.
Under jockey Tom Queally, Midday had to run the distance of 1 mile and 1 furlong in the field of 6 fillies with the likes of Snow Fairy, Crystal Capella and Principal Role.
Midday chased leaders in the beginning of the race and after some time joined the leaders and found her footing, entering the final 2 furlongs.
She was giving her best, ridden and quickened, clear over with a furlong remaining.
Edging past her rivals with a furlong to go, the filly stayed on strongly under hands and heels till the final 100 yards, but readily hit the wire to win the Goodwood event.
Twice Over, on the other hand, a 6-year-old brown horse has had a mixed season and is in need of some more wins until the season ends.
Despite 2 wins in 2011 out of 5 starts, Twice Over has been defeated in 3 consecutive races, failing to finish on the cards.
His last win came on 23 July, 2011, in the Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes at York, over a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs.
The best of Britain will reveal itself on 17 August, with the Nunthorpe Stakes on 19 August and then on 20 August, the Ebor Heritage Handicap, to lighten up the festival.
