Sir Jackie Stewart predicts a strong comeback of Mark Webber in 2011
Sir Jackie Stewart predicts a very strong 2011 season for the Red Bull driver Mark Webber.
Stewart believes that the McLaren duo, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will surely be very competitive in 2011 but that is because they have the right package for next season. On the other hand, he sees Webber very aggressive in the upcoming year and will
surely be the man to watch out on the track.
The 34-year-old has been driving with Formula One since 2002. In all the last 8 years of the driver with the sport, he has not been able to get a place in a very competitive car. However, his two years in Red Bull Racing have shown a very strong driver in
him although many believe that it is now too late for him.
The driver finished the 2009 season at 4th place, while the 2010 has seen him do even better than the last year. After a very tight battle all through the year, and staying at the top of the tally for a large part, the driver finally lost the
championship only at the last race, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Although the season was finally wrapped by him at 3rd place, still he announced earlier this month that the fight is yet not over and he will return next season to begin the tug for the
title once again.
Now, keeping in mind the extensive experience and great determination of the driver, Stewart announced, "I think that Lewis and Jenson have the skills and are with the right team to do it. Both of them are capable of winning the world championship but I
think that Mark Webber at 34 years of age has a good toolkit in his box, enormous experience, enormous knowledge as well as wisdom now."
The 71-year–old veteran also expressed his concern for the new world champion, Sebastian Vettel saying that although the young lad is certainly 'exceptionally talented', yet the stress and pressure that comes along with the title, will be tough for him to
handle. He said that now expectations from the 23-year-old German have increased manifold, as he possesses the talent of many championships.
While further explaining his point of view, the former English driver said that Vettel will now be attending functions all across the globe and such extensive travelling and social activities demand a lot of time and energy which obviously effect racing.
He continued saying, “I've been there and when you are doing major commercial appearances on a global basis you tend to start the season probably as tired as you were when you finished the previous season so that sometimes takes the edge off a driver. Vettel
is 23. I remember when I was 23 but I also remember when I was 34 and I was a different man.”
As he further talked about the next season, the3-time world champion said that over ooking Ferrari’s potential will be very foolish as the team is surely going to come back next season with a new force and high spirit. After having lost the championship
very narrowly, this season, the Italian squad will be very aggressive on the 2011 tracks.
Last but not the least, Stewart warned all the other teams of the fierce comeback of Mercedes GP with Ross Brawn, the winner of both the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championship of 2009. Although the team driver, Nico Rosberg has yet not won any
race so far, yet he has a lot of potential and might have a very strong season ahead from him.
