Sir John Hawkins disappoints in Tyros Stakes – Horseracing news
Sir John Hawkins suffered a shocking defeat in the Korean Racing Authority Tyros Stakes (Group 3) at Leopardstown in Ireland on Thursday, July 25, 2013.
The American challenger was rated as the outright favourite to succeed and the punters gambled on him confidently. They were expecting a victory by a huge margin, but all of their hopes were shattered in the end.
There was plenty of pressure on the favourite stallion right from the opening stages of the race. He was unable to match the leaders, but his fans would have hoped for a comeback towards the final few furlongs. However, that was not the case and the victory
belonged to Exogenesis.
Sir John Hawkins does not have much experience, but he still had the confidence of the bookies and the punters. Despite that, he failed to secure the second win of his career and had to settle for third place. The conditions were not so good for him, but
he had no option of pulling out of the competition, as things changed right at the staring stages.
On the other hand, the winning trainer Ger Lyons said of his challenger, “We were offered very good money after his last win and I said to the owner if we're going where we need to be going we need to be brave with some of these horses and he's worth being
brave with.”
He added, “I wouldn't run him over any shorter than this. He's in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster. We're in no rush with him, the races will find themselves. He's a very straightforward horse. When they're this good a clown could place them!”
This was just the fourth outing for Exogenesis, who proved to be a disappointment in his first ever race, where he ended up down in seventh place. However, things have been a lot different for him from that point onwards, as he has been winning races with
consistency.
With the help of the victory at Leopardstown, the young stallion completed the first ever hat-trick of his career. He seems to have a lot of potential and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the coming events.
