Sir Peter Ogden’s Jethou wins 2012 Rolex Volcano Race – Sailing News
Great Britain’s Sir Peter Ogden on his Mini Maxi, Jethou, showed outstanding performance on the opening day of the 2012 Rolex Volcano Race with six points after clinching a bullet and a third podium finish.
The final day of the regatta brought some tremendous sailing on the Aeolian Islands waters. Ogden’s 60-foot maxi clinched a second position on the final day and retained the leading spot to claim the title.
The regatta has been an outstanding event for the fleet as they had great time sailing on the waters. The weather conditions throughout the event remained constant and supportive. Ogden was feeling excited after winning the regatta.
Speaking to the local media about his excitement, Ogden said, “It was a good race, great fun. I knew we were going to be competitive and we had a bit of luck. This was probably the strongest Rolex event we’ve done in terms of the speed we reached. My abiding
memory will be doing 26 knots, an unbelievable speed, as we passed Nilaya. However, the boat felt very secure. At one stage when we were reaching the boat became an aeroplane!”
Claus-Peter Offen of Germany came in second place with 15 points after crossing the finish line on sixth podium place in the third race of the regatta.
