Sir Richards has a word of praise for Kemar Roach – Cricket News Update
The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KAJ-Roach-c1758 terming him one of the quickest bowlers of contemporary cricket, who could be an inspiration for the young fast bowlers
in long term.
The 60-year-old former West Indies great feels the right-arm fast-bowler from Barbados has the requisite pace and aggression to challenge top teams in international cricket.
“Roach is one of the quickest bowlers in world cricket today and can be an inspiration for young fast bowlers coming through like Shannon Gabriel,” said Sir Richards, who covered the recently concluded three-Test series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and West Indies as
a pundit for BBC Test Match Special, in his end-of-term report.
“He has pace and is the only one with that aggression who can take wickets at regular periods,” the veteran added further.
The 23-year-old Barbadian spearheaded the West Indies attack in a promising way in the opening two Tests of the Wisden Trophy, at Lord’s and Trent Bridge, before being ruled out of the remainder of England itinerary with a shin muscle injury. The fast bowler
claimed six wickets in the opening Test at Lord’s - nine in both Tests, and Sir Richards feels missing the Barbadian in the midst of the tour was a huge loss for the tourists.
“In a team that was struggling anyway he was a huge loss,” Sir Richards told the BBC Sport on Tuesday.
“Ravi Rampaul has been steady, but you need someone like Kemar at the other end to keep constant pressure. We saw against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 recently that they have a habit of blasting out the first four or five batsmen, then running out of steam,” he added further.
Mystery spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869 replaced injured Roach for the third Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham last week, but the Trinidadian failed to make an impact during the rain-interrupted final Test.
The former West Indies skipper and the veteran Test batsman however, is not reading too much into Narine’s failure at Edgbaston. Richards said that it was just a learning trip for Narine and hoped the Trinidad and Tobago spinner will be successful in future.
