Sir Stirling Moss says Jenson Button will fare better than Lewis Hamilton in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Sir Stirling Moss believes that Jenson Button will prove better than Lewis Hamilton in the upcoming season.
Button and Hamilton have a good competitive rivalry going and 2011 was a particularly good year for Button who beat his teammate on points in the drivers’ championship. It was the first time since Hamilton’s debut that he was placed lower than his teammate.
Both drivers secured three Grands Prix wins each but overall it was a forgetful year for Hamilton. He faced both on and off track issues which affected his driving. At one point of the season, Hamilton even said that he did not understand how to fix his
poor form. Although Hamilton did well to put more focus on F1 and ended the season with a better standing.
Moss believes that 2012 will be a similar story and Button will come up trumps in the intra-team rivalry
“Well Lewis does funny things doesn't he, so one can't be sure,” Moss said. “I think that I would put my money actually on Jenson. Yes I would. I think that Lewis is terrific, he really is exceptionally quick but I think that Jenson will think about certain
things better than he does; when to go in for a change of tyres when it's raining or whether not to, all of those sorts of things. I think he's got a better understanding of it. I think experience is a lot of it, an awful lot of it.”
While still admitting that Hamilton had raw pace and talent he conceded that the Brit is still not 100 percent immersed in his driving which might pose problems for him against a very dedicated Button. He feels that it means much more to Button and he will
work hard to achieve it.
Moss praised Sebastian Vettel as well and said that while it is true that the German is a very good driver but he also get the advantage of driving the best car on the grid. Hamilton also praised the Red Bull car and said that it is still the fastest car
on the grid ahead of the upcoming season.
